Kirkwood is Greensboro’s friendliest family neighborhood. Nestled among 50 year old dogwoods, red maples, large poplars, and mixed hardwoods, Kirkwood is home to more than 250 families (have a look for yourself). Primarily a young person’s neighborhood, most homeowners are between the ages of 25 and 40 and have young children. Sprinkled throughout the community, however, are “neighborhood grandparents,” couples without children, and single individuals, all of who create a rich diversity.
Kirkwood’s streets enjoy low automobile traffic and are regularly filled with neighborhood walkers, joggers, and stroller pushers. Children’s laughter dances in the air. Neighbors congregate at corners, on porches, and at the neighborhood park. Lifelong friendships take root.
The Friends of Kirkwood (FOK), a nonprofit organization led by neighborhood residents, helps invigorate the sense of community in Kirkwood through regular events like band and lawn parties, a flag raising, parades, luminaries, a 5K Run/Walk/Push, and an Easter egg hunt, just to mention a few. FOK also coordinates an online neighborhood directory, a neighborhood email listserve and periodic newsletters, and helps homeowners protect one another through a Neighborhood Watch.
Geographically, Kirkwood enjoys a very desirable central location within Greensboro. When you live here, everyplace in Greensboro is within easy reach.
